Read the story
In the middle of the 16th century, people from Molve left their village and Podravina because of the Ottoman invasion. The statue of the Mother of God was buried in the ground near the chapel, believing that they would soon return.
Their persecution was prolonged, so those who buried it died in exile. The statue was forgotten, and the place where it was buried was overgrown by vegetation. According to the legend, the ox owned by Škripelj landlord dug the Mother of God Statue with his horn whilst grazing.
The voice about the miraculous discovery of the statue soon spread through the country, and in the 17th century, people started to pilgrim to the sanctuary and the statue, as they still do it today.
